Real City Steel Challenge March 2017 – £10,000 raised!

This year Simon endured an intense 12 week training camp in preparation for this white collar boxing challenge which saw him lose 7kg in weight for 3 x 2 minute rounds going toe to toe with his opponent.

A crowd of over 350 crammed into a central London venue to cheer on their fighters with the evening boasting 12 bouts to raise funds for Haven House Children’s Hospice. This was definitely a unique occasion for Simon which can best be summarised by his fight-name “For One Night Only” – the pain of battle was superseded by the event generating significant monies to help this wonderful charity provide care to life-limited children and their families at no cost to them.

The London to Monte Carlo Cycle Challenge June 2013 – £18,000 raised!

24 individuals from around the UK took on this massive challenge to raise funds for Wooden Spoon. Searchlight’s Simon Alway formed a team of industry colleagues (Richard Adams, Ross Baker, Nick Morrison and Steve McShane) with each successfully completing the 850 mile trip in 8.5 days. The adventure began on 7th June departing from Twickenham Stadium and finished on 15th June as our ‘pelaton’ entered the Grand Casino Square in Monte Carlo to be met by friends and families who had flown out to greet us. A magical moment that will last a lifetime!

Having cycled from London to Portsmouth the group boarded an overnight ferry to Caen. Our route took us over the famous Pegasus Bridge, across the flat lands and poppy fields of Northern France, through the Loire Valley before crossing the Alps and into Nice. Our 2 days in the mountains included the iconic Alpe d’Huez climb that forms part of the Tour de France. The whole journey included over 28,000 feet of climbing with a daily calorific intake of between 7-10,000 per individual.

Most importantly of all the event raised a staggering £85,000 for the children’s charity of rugby with the Searchlight team generating an impressive £18,000.

The Great Lake Challenge 2011 – £90,000 raised!

11 Hours, 17 Teams and £90,000 raised for Wooden Spoon!

On Friday 16th September a team representing Searchlight Investments took on The Great Lakeland Challenge in aid of the Children’s charity of rugby, Wooden Spoon.

Firstly we canoed the 10 mile length of Windermere taking 2hrs 15 mins, cycled the 27 mile route over Wrynose & Hard Knott Pass with a time of 3 hrs 28 mins and finally we scaled & descended Scafell Pike in atrocious weather conditions completing this 8 mile section in 5hrs 21 mins.

All this, 11 hours 4 minutes, the longest lake, steepest road and highest mountain in England non-stop without a break.

The photo opposite is the team at the summit of Scafell Pike, it was taken using flash photography as it was so dark and cloudy.

Most importantly, with your kind sponsorship, the event which numbered 17 teams raised a combined total of £90,000 for Wooden Spoon which will be spent on enhancing the lives and prospect of life for seriously ill, handicapped and disadvantaged children in the UK.

We are also very proud to inform you that we had 2 special guests this year, Gregg Stevenson & Aaron Moon who are two servicemen, severely injured whilst on tours of duty in Afghanistan, and now play golf to help their rehabilitation process and search for future employment. Our sincere thanks to all involved who helped make this the most enjoyable day!

The Four Peaks Challenge 2009 – £14,000 raised!

Four peaks in less than 48 hours!

Teams of three climbed more than 4200 metres to the summit and back of four of the highest peaks in Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland.

Meanwhile, the fourth team member, the reliable driver, rested while we climbed; then we took to the roads to drive the 1,000 miles between the peaks, letting the climbers recharge their batteries.

We undertook this challenge in 2009 & raised £14k for Wooden Spoon!
